Troop 275 - Ames, Iowa - May Shakedown Hikes

Greetings Philmont Scouts (Erich S, Charlie, Cameron, Josiah, Jordan, Eric B, TJ) plus all other interested Troop 275 Scouts:

5/5 – Day Hike around Ada Haden (FREE):

Corrie and I will be hiking with 30+ pound backpacks w/gear around Ada Haden this Sunday (5/5 Cinco-de-hiko) starting at 2 pm. Any scout, parent or family member is welcome to join us. Large part of being successful at Philmont is being both physically and emotionally “prepared”. Bring your own broken-in hiking shoes/boots, water, moleskin, snacks, backpack w/weight.

5/10-12 – Yellow River Paint Creek Unit ($20 due during 5/6 meeting):

The Troop 275 May 2013 Campout will leave the Lowe’s parking lot by 5:15 pm on Friday 5/10, arriving at Yellow River’s Little Paint youth campground by 8:45 pm. On Saturday morning scouts 14+ will go on a day hike with gear in order to practice for Philmont with changing elevation. Scouts less than 14 will work toward Tenderfoot through First Class rank requirements for hiking, camping, cooking, knots/lashings. Fishing is available so bring your poles and licenses. We will return to Lowe’s parking lot by 10 am on Sunday 5/12.

Troop 275 May Campout – Youth Campsite @ Yellow River, Paint Creek Unit:

Leaving Lowe’s at 5:15 pm on 5/10, (arriving @ camp 8:45 pm)
Returning to Lowe’s at 10 am on 5/12, (leaving camp@ 6:30 am)
Dual purpose campout:

1 – shakedown hike w/packs for Philmont aged scouts (14+),

2 – orienteering and map reading for younger scouts

Regarding Mothers’ Day: all moms are welcome to the campout (or enjoy your scout when he returns at 10 am Sunday)
Cost: $20 ($15 patrol food, $5 camp fee)

WHAT: Broken Arrow District Spring 2013 Camporee

WHEN: Leaving Lowe's Parking lot at 5:15 PM Friday 4/25 & returning to Lowe's Parking lot 10 AM 4/27

WHERE: Seven Oaks Recreation Area - Highway 30 between Boone & Ogden

WHY: To have a great camping experience!

COST: $40 or $46 (i.e. $14 patrol food, $26 per person, additional $6 for optional paintball course)

• Order of the Arrow Orientation & Elections – min. 50% scout attendance
• Canoeing Des Moines River – bring your swim tags from summer camp!
